Dear Parents, Guardians, or Caregivers:
Re: School Climate Surveys for Students in Grades 7 to 12, Parents/Guardians/Caregivers, and School Staff As part of the Toronto District School Board’s (TDSB) effort to promote a positive school climate and prevent bullying, the TDSB is conducting surveys of students, parents/guardians/caregivers, and school staff every two years. The results will help schools and the TDSB find ways to promote a positive school climate and prevent bullying.
This spring (March to June 2015), students in Grades 7 to 12 and their parents/guardians/caregivers are invited to fill out the school climate surveys. The survey questions ask about bullying as well as relationships, school rules, safety, extracurricular activities, learning materials and technology, the classroom environment, teaching support, and student voice and participation. The school climate surveys are anonymous which means that no identifiable information will be collected, such as your child’s name or student ID. All completed survey responses are sent to the TDSB’s Research Department for processing, and the information is used for research and planning purposes only. All results are grouped and presented in a way that protects the confidentiality of all participants. No one in the school will come to know individual responses to the surveys.
Student Survey: Students complete the survey online at school. The survey takes about 20 minutes to complete. To support English language learners, translated versions of the survey are available. Special Education support will also be provided. The survey is voluntary, but we would like you to encourage your child to participate, so that we will have enough responses to plan and implement programs to improve the school climate and prevent bullying at our school.
Should you decide not to have your child participate in this survey, please complete the section at the bottom of the letter sent home and return it to your child’s teacher by May 1, 2015.
Our school will be administering the student survey from May 4, 2015 to May 15, 2015.
Parent/Guardian/Caregiver Survey: All parents/guardians/caregivers of Grades 7-12 students are invited to complete the TDSB’s Parent School Climate Survey. Parents may complete the survey online at home. The parent survey is available at https://eforms.tdsb.on.ca/lfserver/parentsurvey. The survey for parents is also available in paper copy in all the languages listed on the back of the letter sent home with your child. If you need a translated version, please request one from our school’s main office.
